Camulodunum

Camulodunum is now called Colchester.

Camulodunum was a key townand was designated a Colonia which made it an extension of the city of Rome giving its inhabitants Roman citizenship. Most towns were designated Municipia which didn't provide its inhabitants with Roman citizenship.

It was fully walled.

The town has many Roman remains including some of its city walls and gates. There was also a large temple.

It was a center for pottery production and there were about 40 pottery kilns nearby at its peak.

Other significant finds include a Roman mosaic found at the Middleborough House and a Roman sphinx sculpture found in a tomb.
